Keep your eyes on the finish line!
Ever feel like you have so many things you want to accomplish in life and they just take so much longer to realize than you think they should? Have you ever noticed that you are keen to get to the gym in January but your attendance starts petering out around this time of year?
The highest attrition rate for adherence to goals happens in the middle part of the process. In the beginning, there’s often excitement and energy to get started. When you can see the proverbial ‘light at the end of the tunnel,’ it’s often easier to push yourself to the finish line. It’s the middle part of any goal or project where it seems to be the most challenging to keep your focus and energy. It’s the middle part of a process where most of the work is done but you can’t see the full impact of the results just yet. It’s during the middle part when persistence and discipline are needed the most to keep us working towards our goals.
So, take courage my friends! The good news is that you have the vision to dream and the courage to believe you can get there! Remind yourself of why you embarked on this journey in the first place and continue to believe that all your hard work will be worth it in the end. It may take more work, more time and maybe even more money than you originally thought it would, but the payoff is coming. Just think how you will feel when you see that light at the end of the tunnel and your goal is finally realized.
“Failure is often that early morning hour of darkness which precedes the dawning of the day of success.” — Leigh Mitchell Hodges
